Police: Ambulance carrying child struck by red light runner in Blaine

BLAINE, Minn. (KMSP) - An ambulance transporting a child between hospitals rolled over on its side after a collision with another vehicle Monday night in Blaine, Minnesota. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 65 and 109th Avenue just before 9 p.m.

According to Allina Health spokeswoman, the ambulance was on a routine call and was following normal traffic rules when the other vehicle hit the ambulance. Blaine police told Fox 9 the driver of the car that struck the ambulance ran a red light.

The ambulance did not have its lights on at the time of the crash. The child was in a child seat. 

The two medics inside the ambulance as well as the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Mercy Hospital. The mother and child, who were riding in the back of the ambulance, were taken to Abbott Northwestern and Children's Hospital, respectively. 

The medics were treated and released. The others suffered minor injuries, but are expected to be OK. 

Anoka County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
