Pedestrian struck, killed by train in Elk River, Minn.

A teenager was struck and killed by a Northstar Commuter Rail train in Elk River Sunday night, while another barely escaped uninjured.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. when two minors were walking westbound on train tracks near 192nd Avenue NW and Ogden Street NW, according to Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla.

One of the juveniles was able to jump off the tracks and was not injured, while the other individual was not able to get off the tracks and died at the scene.

Metro Transit later identified the boy who died as Grayson Dow. The other minor who was walking with him on the tracks said they were on the way home from a friend's house at the time of the incident, claiming neither of them noticed the train until it was roughly 50 feet away. There is not a pedestrian or street crossing where Dow was hit.

Metro Transit, the Elk River Police Departmenta and the Sherburne County Sheriff's office are investigating the accident, Padilla said.
