Officials: Dog was hit, shot, reportedly mutilated in Polk County, Wis.

Authorities in Polk County, Wisconsin are investigating after a dog was found dead and reportedly mutilated last month.

According to a release, on Nov. 24 between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., a dog was killed in the area of the 1800 block of 120th Street in Balsam Lake. The dog was found by its owner who then reported the incident to the police.

Initial reports indicated that the dog was struck by a car and then shot, possibly to end further suffering. However, a few days later, the sheriff's office received additional information that indicated the dog may have been "shot and possibly cut or sliced."
