Minnesotans to be honored on Peace Officer Memorial Day in Washington, D.C.

Fallen officers Bill Mathews and Sgt. James Anderson will be honored Sunday in Washington, D.C. as part of Peace Officer Memorial Day. At least 43 Minnesotans are traveling to Washington for the event.

The group was sent off and greeted at the gate in Washington, D.C, by the honor guard from Elk River, Minnesota.

They will honor Officer Bill Mathews and Sgt. James Anderson at the event. Anderson was shot and killed in 1982 when he responded to a domestic disturbance call in Wayzata.
