Minnesota troopers help deliver 2 babies in 48 hours

State Patrol troopers helped deliver two healthy babies in less than 48 hours on Minnesota highways over the weekend.

The first baby boy was delivered at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on Highway 77 near Highway 62 in Minneapolis. Trooper Jason Theel responded to a woman in labor, and kept the mother comfortable until paramedics arrived. Once paramedics took over, Trooper Theel helped give the mother some privacy during the roadside delivery.

The second baby boy was delivered on Interstate 90 near Worthington, Minn. Trooper James Orlando was working a traffic stop when a car pulled up behind him and a man jumped out saying he needed help with his wife. When Trooper Orlando got to the car, he found the mother had just given birth. He made sure the baby was breathing and kept the mother and baby comfortable until the ambulance arrived.
