Members of the Minneapolis Police Department met with the Peltier family just weeks after three of their children were struck by a vehicle in a north Minneapolis Park.

Thursday, the department's Chaplain Unit and Bike Cops for Kids gave five new bikes and helmets to the family.

Last month, the children were playing their father at a park near Jenny Lind Elementary School last month, when a driver, who was leading troopers on a chase, pulled off the road and into the park area. The vehicle struck three of the children.

Two-year-old Kayden Peltier, three-year-old Konnor Peltier and four-year-old Lillianna Peltier were injured in the crash. Kayden faced the most serious injuries, which included a cervical spine fracture, pelvic fracture and even had to have his spleen removed. As part of his recovery, he now wears a head brace.

Wednesday, the driver involved in the incident, Kabaar Powell, pleaded guilty to two counts of fleeing police in court. His sentencing is scheduled for next month.
