Man shot, killed while wearing bulletproof vest at Houston house party

Police say a man died early Sunday morning after being shot at a house party while wearing a bulletproof vest.

It happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning on Rutland Street in the Heights.

Police say about six to eight people were partying at the house when the victim put on a bulletproof vest.

At some point, Jason Griffin shot at him and then fled the scene.

Police are not sure if the bullet went through the vest or hit a part of him that was uncovered.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Griffin was located at an area hospital where he was being treated for a medical issue.

He is charged with manslaughter, felon in possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of body armor.
