Major gas leak shuts down I-35W in Bloomington, Minn.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KMSP) - A semi-truck ruptured a natural gas line when it crashed into the 86th Street bridge on I-35W in Bloomington, Minn. Saturday afternoon. The gas leak is under control, but the southbound lanes of the interstate remain closed between I-494 and 90th Street.
A 10" gas main that runs under the 86th Street bridge was struck in the crash, according to the Bloomington Fire Department. The gas leak has been secured and shut off, but the southbound lanes of I-35W interstate will be closed for several hours while crews inspect the bridge for damage.
The fire crews are monitoring the air on both sides of I-35W and checking the gas levels of buildings and houses in the surrounding area.
