Lap swimmer drowns in Eden Prairie, Minn. community pool

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (KMSP) - A 34-year-old man died of an apparent drowning at the Eden Prairie Community Center pool Thursday evening, the Hennepin County sheriff's office confirmed.
Eden Prairie police were called to the community center at approximately 8:30 p.m. for a medical emergency. Bystanders, community center employees and emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the man as Demanche Chhoun of Shakopee. Officials said the cause of death was freshwater drowning.
According to the City of Eden Prairie, the man had been swimming laps in the Community Center dive pool during adult swim hours. There weren't any lifeguards on duty at the time, which is in accordance with state law and the posted Community Center Lap Swim Policy.
The Hennepin County sheriff’s office is investigating the drowning.
The Hennepin County Health Inspector completed an inspection of the dive pool.
