Hostage situation in Illinois hospital leaves one dead

(KMSP) - Police fatally shot an armed inmate who took a hospital worker hostage at Geneva Hospital in Illinois.

Police say a SWAT team entered the building after negotiations stopped working with 21-year-old Tywon Salters this afternoon in Geneva.

Salters allegedly took the gun from a corrections officer who was watching him.

Salters was being held on charges related to a stolen vehicle, but police haven't said why he was hospitalized.
