MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - It's been a whirlwind week for Gophers shortstop Terrin Vavra—Sunday night's victory over UCLA propelling the team to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional and then, Tuesday, hearing his name called as a top-100 draft pick by the Colorado Rockies.
It's certainly enough good news in such a short period of time to go to one's head, though Vavra says his mind is firmly focused on the task at hand: beating Oregon State this weekend for an opportunity to play in the 2018 College World Series. It would be the Gophers first appearance in the tournament since 1977.
"My mind is on what’s before me with the Gophers," he said Tuesday. "I am excited about opportunity with the Rockies, but also really looking forward to this weekend and getting to compete where to Gophers team has competed before.”
Vavra was selected in the third round by Colorado, the 96th pick overall.
