Good Samaritans save woman from burning vehicle near Sandstone, Minn.

SANDSTONE, Minn. (KMSP) - The Minnesota State Patrol said three Good Samaritans played a vital role in saving a 67-year-old woman's life by getting her out of a burning vehicle on Sunday near Sandstone, Minn.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Marie Francoise Hupalo, of Ontario, was traveling southbound on Interstate 35 when she went off the road and hit some trees. Due to her injuries, she was unable to get out of the vehicle on her own.

"Several people stopped to help and pulled Hupalo from her vehicle as it began to burn and was eventually engulfed in flames," the DPS said in a press release.

Passing motorists Sean Kehren, Elissa Schnell and Josh Schnell helped rescue Hupalo from the burning vehicle, playing a "vital role" in saving her life, the DPS said. She was then transported to North Memorial Medical Center where she's listed in "serious" condition.

"The Hupalo family thanks everyone who was involved in the rescue, especially the people who helped get her out of the vehicle," the DPS said.
