Blaine police officer, wife killed in crash in Elk River, Minn.

Police in Blaine, Minnesota, are mourning the loss of one of their own after a crash Friday night in Elk River.

At about 6 p.m., Elk River police responded to a crash near the 21100 block of Twin Lakes Road where they discovered a motorcycle and pickup truck collided head-on.

The motorcycle was occupied by a driver and passenger, and the pickup truck was occupied only by the driver.  

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 51-year-old Steven Nanney and 51-year-old Susie Nanney of Ham Lake.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 17 year-old Elk River resident, sustained minor injuries and was later released.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Elk River Police Department and Sherburne County Sheriff’s office.
