Bethel University senior dies after crashing in Arden Hills on way back to campus

A Bethel University senior died after a crash near the campus in Arden Hills, Minnesota Monday night.

Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Roy Magnuson said Anthony Nelson, 22, of Blooming Prairie, was driving west on Snelling Avenue North near County Road E2 around 10:45 p.m. when his car crossed the road and went into a ditch, striking a tree and a power pole.

First responders extracted Nelson from the vehicle and rendered aid to him. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Nelson died of multiple blunt force injuries.

In an email to Bethel students, Vice President of Student Life William Washington said Nelson was returning to campus, where he was living for the summer while completing a business internship, when the crash occurred.

Nelson was majoring in accounting and finance. He was also a member of the men’s basketball and football teams.

Washington said the university is providing staff to help students through the grieving process. The university will be holding a “time for worship and prayer” early in the fall semester in memory of Nelson.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.
