American Academy of Neurology gives away 1,000 bike helmets in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - In an effort to raise awareness about brain health and prevention of brain injuries, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) hosted a bike helmet giveaway Saturday.
The organization has provided tens of thousands of bike helmets to adults and children since 2012. They partnered with local Minneapolis nonprofit organizations including the Minneapolis Police Department Bike Cops for Kids, Brain Injury Alliance Minnesota and Hennepin County Health Care for the Homeless.
Saturday, AAN had 1,000 free bike helmets to pass out to everyone from toddlers to adults.
"The AAN Bike Helmet Giveaway is an important way to support our local community and help prevent head injuries," Catherine Rydell, the executive director and CEO of the American Academy of Neurology, said in a press release. "We want to encourage everyone to protect their brain as they enjoy their favorite recreational activities this summer."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey acknowledged the event by proclaiming Saturday, June 23, 2018, Brain Health Awareness Day.
