37-year-old Wisconsin woman drowns in northern Minnesota lake
BACKUS, Minn. (KMSP) - A 37-year-old Wisconsin woman died in an apparent drowning in a lake in Cass County, in north-central Minnesota Saturday afternoon.
At 4:23 p.m. Cass County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a possible drowning on Ponto Lake in rural Backus. A Sheboygan woman had been swimming near the shore and was found in the water not breathing.
The victim was removed from the water and life-saving efforts were performed.
She was airlifted to a hospital in St. Cloud, where she died on Sunday. Her identity has not been released.
