A major crash involving 30 to 50 vehicles caused traffic delays on Interstate 94 near Rogers Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened on I-94 eastbound near Highway 101. It occurred at 1:08 p.m. and began with a stalled vehicle on the shoulder of the road, the Minnesota State Patrol said. A semi-truck that was passing the stalled car hit the brakes, lost traction and jackknifed. Other motorists approaching the original crash then hit the side of the semi or crashed into each other.

Five people were injured in the crash. They were all transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

"We want people who are involved in crashes on the side of the road to not exit their vehicle. Call 911," said Lt. Tiffani Nielson with the Minnesota State Patrol.
