3 injured in boat accident near Minnesota-Canada border

Three people were injured in a boating accident early Saturday in northern Minnesota.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities with the St. Louis County sheriff's office responded to a boat crash on Crane Lake in Voyageurs National Park.

According to a release, the 24' cuddy cabin-style boat struck the southern tip of Indian Island after a mechanical malfunction took out the lighting. The driver was trying to slow down before they hit the island.

Two women were in the cabin area at the time of the crash. One sustained serious injuries and the other was uninjured.

The man who was driving the boat and another passenger were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
