Minnesota weather: Bright and bitterly cold on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Prepare for a frigid Monday with sunny skies, subzero temperatures and blustery winds.
Monday’s forecast in Minnesota
Martin Luther King Jr. Day could be one of the coldest days we've seen in the Twin Cities in six years. Subzero temperatures will combine with wind chills ranging from 25 to 45 degrees below zero across Minnesota.
A cold weather advisory is in effect until noon for parts of central, southern, and western Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area. Meanwhile, an extreme cold warning is in place for southeastern and northern Minnesota, where wind chills could plunge as low as 45 degrees below zero.

Monday will be sunny with clear blue skies, though a few clouds may develop in the afternoon. Expect blustery winds at 10-20+ mph, adding to the bitter cold. Highs across Minnesota will stay below zero, with the metro area reaching a daytime high of minus 6 degrees.
Monday night will be one of the coldest of the year so far, with temperatures dropping into the minus teens across central and southern Minnesota, and into the minus 20s in northern areas.

More seasonable temperatures ahead
A warming trend begins on Tuesday as southwest winds bring in warmer air. The day will start sunny with increasing clouds in the afternoon. Light snow is expected in the evening and overnight hours.
Wednesday will feel much warmer, with highs reaching the mid-20s. Temperatures will dip slightly into the teens on Thursday before stabilizing in the 20s through the weekend.
