Minnesota weather: Warm and gusty Friday; bitter cold weekend ahead
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Friday will bring warmer temperatures and gusty winds, but a bitter cold snap with subzero wind chills is set to take hold by the weekend.

What to expect:
Friday begins on a mild note with a mix of sunshine and clouds accompanied by southwest winds at 10-15 mph. There’s also a chance for light snow flurries or wintry mix in the afternoon and evening.
Temperatures remain above-average, ranging from the mid to upper 30s in much of Minnesota, with slightly cooler conditions in northwestern regions. The Twin Cities metro daytime high is 38 degrees.
By the late afternoon, winds will shift to the northwest and start ushering in colder air. It will be rather windy with gusts reaching 30-40+ mph across Minnesota. Overnight, the winds will persist as temperatures fall into the single digits.

Bitter cold weekend
What's next:
Temperatures will start to plummet overnight Friday, kicking off a stretch of bitter cold. From Saturday night through midday Tuesday, actual air temperatures will remain below zero, accompanied by dangerously cold wind chills.

Saturday’s high will be just 6 degrees, with wind chills ranging from 10 to 15 degrees below zero. Sunday is even colder with a high of minus 3 degrees, wind speeds at 15-20 mph, and feels like temperatures at 20 to 30 degrees below zero.
The frigid cold persists into the start of the week, with a bone-chilling high of 6 degrees below zero on Monday. By midweek, temperatures will start to rise back into the 20s.
