A year ago when the pandemic brought fear and uncertainty to our lives, a Stillwater realtor wanted to do something kind to bring people joy. She decided to put down $100 to buy other people coffee at The Daily Grind Espresso Cafe. A year later; and that’s how every morning has started as others keep the gesture going. Brit?s Pub ready to reopen
After a seven-month closure, Brit?s Pub reopens in downtown Minneapolis today. It was damaged in a riot in August. Looters broke the windows, started a fire and stole memorabilia off the walls. The bar has been fully restored to its original form. All indoor seating will be open this weekend. The lawn bowling green won?t open until this summer. The airstream trailer is far more than a bar, it?s a customized experience with yard games for tailgating to flower crowns and jewelry making for bridal showers and bachelorette parties. Lindsey Pattee, a Plymouth mom of two, came up with the idea during the pandemic as a way to connect safely outdoors, bringing the party right to your driveway for small gatherings and events. New bakery brings Texas-style donuts to Shakopee
A Shakopee family is living their dream after finally opening the business they?ve been building for years. It?s called ?Sabbai?s The Donut Hole? and its bringing Texas-style donuts to the southwest metro. The donut and bubble tea shop is located off 169 and Canterbury Road. Ashley Minh and her family trained in Texas for a month and had their shop ready to go in early 2020, but the difference in humidity mean the donuts weren?t baking up right. The family spent almost another year perfecting their recipe. The shop is now open Wednesday to Sunday, 6am to 2pm.

March is Women?s History Month and the Minnesota History Center has a new show highlighting Minnesota women who made lasting contributions to history, culture and society. A group of the Twin Cities? most beloved Irish and Irish-Americans have been baking up a fundraiser. They?ll be selling two types of Irish soda bread with a Minnesota twist in celebration of St. Patrick?s Day and in support of the Irish Fair of Minnesota. There will be classic brown soda bread and a beer-bread version featuring Finnegan?s Dead Irish Poet Extra Stout. The bread is being produced at Baker?s Field Flour & Bread in the Food Building in NE Minneapolis. Sales begin Friday March 5th and run through the 21st. The bread can be purchased for $6 at Kieran?s Kitchen and Irish on Grand in St. Paul.

Interest in home renovation has boomed since the pandemic as we all spend more time at home for distance learning and working from home. A great place to get fresh ideas is the Parade of Homes Tour, which opens the doors to more than 300 houses across the Twin Cities in a wide range of prices. The tour runs Thursday to Sunday, 12-6pm through March. All homes will have a maximum occupancy of 10 people. While most the homes are free to tour, there are a handful of Dream Homes, which cost $5. For now, the restaurant is only offering a specially curated 10-course vegetarian meal. The bar area is open as well for drinks and tacos.

They?ve teamed up with ?Ice Occasions? to recreate the fan-favorites as ice sculptures that?ll be placed in parks across Minneapolis for all to see. The art-in-ice will be on view starting Friday, February 19th. The five museum pieces and locations are: Veiled Lady at Longfellow Park, Olive Trees at Washburn-Fair Oaks Park, Your Dog at Bde Mka Ska, Celestial Horse at North Commons Park and Lobster Telephone at Boom Island Park. The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has come a long way in the last few years making a commitment to inclusion. One of our own, Minnesota?s Halima Aden, was the first model featured wearing a hijab and burkini. Now, Marine on St. Croix native is hoping to be the next Minnesotan to make history in the issue. Her name is Mikayla Holmgren and if that name rings a bell it?s because she was the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in a Miss USA pageant entering the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in 2017. She won the Spirit of Miss USA and Director?s awards that night. Now she?s set her sights on the SI Swim Issue and put together her audition video which is now posted online. The entertaining calendar features such highlights as ?dad bods? and an ode to Joe Exotic and movie ?The Shining.? The calendar is available at Pig Ate My Pizza in Robbinsdale. This is the 8th edition of the ?Sexy Chef Calendar.? It started as a fundraising effort to build out the space they?re currently located in. It was such a hit they continue to bring it back. The Doc is in! Popular Disney Junior show ?Doc McStuffins? has come to life in a new exhibit at the Minnesota Children?s Museum. The cartoon is about a little girl who fixes up her toys, reassures them they?re going to be okay and encourages them not to be afraid of the doctor. The exhibit has been spread out over two areas to ensure social distancing and many of the touch-toys have been removed or switched to a different surface to allow for easier cleaning. The ?Doc McStuffins? exhibit will be in place through May 9th. MCM is now open Thursday to Sunday.

With these above average temps the city of Burnsville wants to tee it up. But they won?t be using golf balls. Instead they?ve chosen bright-colored dodgeballs for their first-ever winter golf tournament this weekend at Birnamwood. Despite the unknowns, the tourney sold out right away. The public can still come out to watch and grab a bite or beverage. It starts Saturday the 16th at 9am.
