Wolves head coach Flip Saunders treated for Hodgkin's Lymphoma
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Minnesota Timberwolves head coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders announced Tuesday he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which doctors called a "very treatable and curable."
"I am attacking this with the same passion I do everything in my life, knowing this is a serious issue," Saunders said after the announcement
A statement from the team said the initial diagnosis came 8 weeks ago and Saunders immediately began treatment at Mayo Clinic. He will continue his duties in the front office and on the court with the team.
"Treatment typically involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy. Or sometimes a combination of both," said Dr. Mark Wilkowske, an oncologist at Park Nicollet.
"This is something that is individual from patient to patient. Many patients can carry on with their schedule while receiving treatment. Tiredness and fatigue are certainly an issue for most all patients receiving treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma."
Each NBA team shared their well wishes for the coach on Twitter.
