The Vikings strengthened their secondary with their first-round draft pick Thursday, choosing cornerback Mike Hughes with pick No. 30.
Hughes comes to Minnesota via Central Florida, where he was an All--AAC selection.
At 5-foot-10 he's a little short for a defensive back, but Hughes also has potential as a kick and punt returner after shining at that position in college.
Last season the New Bern, N.C. native had 44 tackles and four interceptions for the Knights, with room to improve under an experienced Vikings secondary with a pair of All-Pro selections.
