Gophers, Twins to honor Jacob Wetterling at weekend games
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KMSP) - The Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Gophers are planning to honor Jacob Wetterling in several ways at their respective games this weekend.
Wear 11 to honor Jacob Wetterling
The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center along with Patty Wetterling announced on Wednesday, people who want to honor Jacob should wear the number 11 somewhere. Jacob wore a red number 11 jersey in sports as a child. Anyone who puts on the number 11 should incorporate these 11 traits:

4. Be Honest
5. Be Thankful
6. Be a Good Sport
7. Be a Good Friend
8. Be Joyful
9. Be Generous
10. Be Gentle with others
11. Be Positive

The Twins announced the team will wear red jerseys with a number 11 patch at Friday’s game vs. Cleveland to honor Jacob Wetterling.
The visiting Cleveland Indians will also wear the number 11 patch in honor of Jacob.
Starting Friday, the Twins will auction off 11 of the jerseys worn and all proceeds with benefit the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center. To bid, go to twinsbaseball.com/auctions.
Before the game, the Twins will have a moment of remembrance and place an outfield wall graphic at Target Field that will stay up for the rest of the 2016 season.
The University of Minnesota athletic department will distribute stickers with #11 on them and “For Jacob” to fans as they enter the stadium for Saturday’s game against Indiana State University.
The U of M mascot Goldy Gopher will also sport a No. 11 on his jersey in place of his usual No. 0 during Saturday’s game.
Minnesota teams from across the state are also doing their part to honor Jacob's memory.
The Elk River Elks youth football team paid tribute to the Wetterling family on Thursday by wearing a No. 11 decal on their helmet. The number would likely have been his jersey number had his dream of becoming a football player been realized.
