Adrian Peterson, New Orleans Saints 'closing in on a deal'

Week 1 just got a lot more interesting. Adrian Peterson and the New Orleans Saints are “believed to be closing in on a deal” that would pay him $3 million for the 2017 season, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. Rapoport said it’s not a done deal, “but “moving in that direction.”

Adrian Peterson’s tenure with the Vikings came to an end on March 16, when general manager Rick Spielman confirmed Peterson would not return to Minnesota. The Vikings have signed former Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray for the 2017 season.

Peterson, 31, is currently an unrestricted free agent. Peterson was with the Vikings for 10 seasons, but played only three games last season after tearing his meniscus in Week 2. He is the Vikings’ all-time leading rusher with 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns.
