Winning $768.4 million Powerball ticket sold in Wisconsin, $2 million ticket sold in Minnesota
NEW BERLIN, Wis. (FOX 9) - The winning lottery ticket for Wednesday’s $768.4 million Powerball jackpot was sold in Wisconsin, officials announced Thursday.
It is the largest jackpot in the state’s history and the third largest in U.S. history.
The winning ticket, worth a cash option of $477 million, was sold in New Berlin, southwest of Milwaukee, the Associated Press reported. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will receive a $100,000 payout.
Under Wisconsin law, lottery winners cannot remain anonymous and must claim their prize within 180 days.
Powerball lists the odds for winning the grand prize as 1 in 292,201,338.
The Midwest must be lucky, because another winning Powerball ticket was sold a Holiday gas station in Stillwater, Minnesota Wednesday. The ticket was worth $2 million.
In Minnesota, players have one year to claim their prize.
