Student arrested after assaulting faculty at Normandale Community College

A student at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota is in custody after he assaulted two faculty members Wednesday morning on campus.

Around 11 a.m., a 21-year-old St. Paul man struck his 47-year-old female instructor several times after a dispute, according to the Bloomington Police Department. Another faculty member, a 47-year-old man, then intervened and was also assaulted.

While the suspect left the building, he injured a 23-year-old person, who received treatment at the scene. Bloomington police later took the suspect into custody in the college parking ramp. Police recovered a handgun in the student's backpack. 

The female faculty member was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is being held on probable cause third degree assault, fifth degree assault and possession of a firearm without a permit.
