St. Paul apartment building evacuated by SWAT team Tuesday morning, 2 people arrested

Two people were arrested following reports of shots being fired in St. Paul, which resulted in a large police presence, the closure of multiple streets and the evacuation of residents from an apartment complex on Tuesday morning.

A shots fired call around 5:30 a.m. prompted a large police presence in St. Paul on Tuesday morning, with law enforcement focusing on an apartment complex in the area of North Lexington Parkway and Ashland Avenue. 

Police say surrounding streets were blocked off as a safety precaution as members of the SWAT team evacuated residents from an apartment building. The St. Paul Police Department requested a Metro Transit bus for a warming shelter for residents who had been evacuated. 

As of around 9 a.m., police cleared the scene and the streets have since reopened. 

SPPD said two people were taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
