Shooting in Chaska injures 2, suspect arrested in Jordan

A shooting in Chaska, Minn. injured 2 people around 9 p.m. Thursday night in the area of County Road 140 and Highway 61. Just before noon Friday, Chaska police confirmed the suspect, 39-year-old Joshua Lee Gilpin, was arrested without incident in Jordan, Minn.

Police confirmed all parties involved in the shooting knew each other. The condition of the shooting victims is not yet known.

At about 7 a.m. Friday morning, police in an armored vehicle asked the residents of a house at 2nd Street and Mertens Street to come out with their hands up. The Scott County-Carver County-Tri-City SWAT and Bloomington SWAT team searched the home, but Gilpin was not found.

Joshua Gilpin has a criminal history that includes multiple DWI convictions, a theft conviction and other traffic violations.

The Jordan School District announced a 2-hour delay Friday morning, with an active search for the shooter underway. Eastern Carver County School District 112 announced a precautionary lockdown, with classes continuing as normal, but no outside activities. That lockdown was lifted at noon, with all activities continuing as normal Friday afternoon and evening.

"All Jordan Schools, private and public, will have a 2-HOUR DELAY, Friday, October 2, 2015 due to a situation occurring in downtown Jordan. This delay is per the recommendation of the the Jordan Police Department. We will continue to update if the situation warrants further action. Thank you."

“Chaska police have been searching for a suspect in an incident that occurred overnight. As a precaution, all schools in Eastern Carver County Schools are in lockdown with warning until further notice. Lockdown with warning means there are no outside activities. The school day will proceed normally inside the building. This is a precautionary measure.”
