Driver hurt after vehicle collides with light rail train in St. Paul

A driver is expected to survive after being injured when police say a vehicle turned into the path of a light rail train in St. Paul on Sunday evening.

What we know:

Metro Transit police responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a report of a crash involving the Green Line train and a vehicle along University Avenue near Lexington Parkway.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment, but police say they are expected to survive their injuries.

The impact of the knocked the train off its tracks. Crews were working to get the train back on its track, so service could resume.

In the meantime, Metro Transit was using buses between Western and Snelling Avenue stations along the light rail line.

UPDATE: Metro Transit says Green Line service has been restored.
