A fast-thinking neighbor helped save three people from a burning home in St. Francis, Minn. after alerting them the house had caught fire, according to St. Francis police and fire officials.

St. Francis Police Officer Brandon Stemme says just before 7 p.m. Monday, a neighbor called for help upon noticing smoke coming from the home in the 2700 block of 234th Lane NW. The neighbor then knocked on the door to notify the people inside. The two people got out of the home safely before the fire spread.

Fire officials say the fire started on the exterior of the home and caused extensive damage to the roof and attic.

Stemme says according to early investigation, officials believe an an electrical issue caused the fire.

The home is a total loss.
