Minnesota United to open Allianz Field against New York City FC April 13

Minnesota United FC will take the Allianz Field pitch for the first time April 13, the team announced Thursday.

In a 4 p.m. match against New York City FC, the Loons will christen their new stadium and kick off a new era for the franchise. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.

“This day is going to be the culmination of years of hard work and planning,” said MNUFC CEO Chris Wright. “We cannot wait to share Allianz Field with everyone in Minnesota. We know it will be at the pinnacle of soccer stadiums in North America and will put Midway, St. Paul and Minnesota on the global soccer map. Our home opener will be a truly historic moment for the club, the fans and the community.”

To celebrate the announcement, Allianz Field showed off its light display before dawn Thursday.

The 2019 season will begin in Vancouver earlier that month when they take on the Whitecaps March 2 at BC Place.

Due to the high demand and a large number of season ticket holders, single game tickets for the home opener will be limited. In fact, the club expects tickets will be sold out before sales are open to the public.

Home opener presales will begin in early January. To join the wait list or purchase season tickets, visit mnufc.com/tickets.
