Minneapolis man struck and killed by pickup truck on shoulder of I-694 in Oakdale

A 46-year-old Minneapolis man is dead after a three-car crash on I-694 in Oakdale Sunday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Darryl Bell and a 52-year-old Minneapolis woman, Sandra Bell, were stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate. Mr. Bell was outside the vehicle with the rear driver’s side door open.

A pickup truck, driven by Thomas Soler, 70, of Stillwater, drifted onto the shoulder striking the stopped vehicle and throwing the Mr. Bell farther onto the shoulder. Mr. Bell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup veered back into the lanes of traffic, striking a car driven by Nithyashree Madan, 28, of Sacramento, California. The truck then swerved back to the right and came to rest in a ditch.

The incident closed I-694 for a few hours Sunday, but it reopened around 2 p.m.
