Joe Biden not running for president
WASHINGTON (KMSP) - Vice President Joe Biden will not run for president. Biden made the announcement just after noon ET Wednesday from the White House Rose Garden, with his wife Jill and President Obama at his side.
Biden referenced the loss of his son, Beau, to brain cancer in May, and how the grieving process overlapped with the window to start a successful campaign.
"As my family and I have worked through the grieving process, I've said all along what I've said time and again to others -- that it may very well be that the process, by the time we get through it, closes the window," Biden said. "I've concluded it has closed."
While he won't be running for president, Biden is pledging to remain an active voice in politics.
"I will not be a candidate, but I will not be silent," Biden said.
