IKEA recalls 80,000 safety gates due to falling hazard

Ikea recalled the Patrull Fast safety gate (pictured above) and the Patrull and Patrull Klamma models for a falling hazard.

IKEA is recalling about 80,000 safety gate and gate extensions sold in the U.S. due to a falling hazard to children.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the locking mechanism can open unexpectedly, which could put children and others in danger.

In addition, the company will also recall over 28,000 gates sold in Canada.

The affected models include: The PATRULL, PATRULLFAST and PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gate and gate extension models. IKEA sold the recalled items at stores nationwide, as well as online from August 1995 through June 2016. For more details, click here

This comes after 55 injury reports worldwide, including reports of concussions and cuts or bruising.

Last month, IKEA also recalled 29 million dressers after a child died when it tipped over.
