MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Two men were killed, and a woman was injured in two separate shootings that occurred just hours apart in Minneapolis.
Shooting on 18th Avenue South
What we know:
Minneapolis police said the first shooting happened on Thursday around 8:50 p.m. on the 2400 block of 18th Avenue South.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 31-year-old man was shot at close range, and a group of three to four people ran from the area prior to police arrival.
Officers at the scene found the man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police provided medical aid until EMS transported the man to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
What they're saying:
"This shooting, which occurred at close range, is especially troubling," said Chief Brian O’Hara in a statement. "Our investigators are working to identify those responsible. I urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist our efforts in seeking justice for the victim."
Shooting on 26th Avenue North
What we know:
Hours later, around 1:45 a.m., officers responded to another shooting on the 2500 block of 26th Avenue North. Police said someone fired gunshots from outside the house, striking a man and woman inside.
When officers arrived, they found both victims, described as being in their 20s, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital for treatment. The man, however, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This is the second homicide in less than four hours, and it also appears to be targeted," said O'Hara. "We cannot stand by and let this continue. Anyone with information should come forward and assist our investigators. We need the community's support to solve this horrific shooting."
What we don't know:
While authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to both shootings, Chief O’Hara indicated there is currently no indication the two shootings are connected.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the victims and determine the cause and manner of their deaths.
No arrests have been made in either shooting, according to police.
