Dramatic video shows Los Angeles father pushing daughter out of way of speeding car

Dramatic video shows a father pushing his young daughter out of the path of a speeding vehicle while crossing the street, before being struck himself.

Police released video to the public in hopes of finding the hit-and-run driver in the incident, reported on Nov. 16, 2018 in the Glassell Park area of Los Angeles.

The man was struck around 5:15 p.m. in a marked crosswalk at San Fernando Road and Hallett Avenue, police said.

The video, which was captured by a surveillance camera from an adjacent building, shows a red, four-door vehicle speeding toward the two as they walked through the crosswalk.

“The father realized that the vehicle was not going to stop, and he pushed his daughter out of the vehicle's path. However, the father was struck by the vehicle, launching him onto the sidewalk,” police said.

The man suffered a broken thigh bone. His daughter only suffered scratches to her face "because of his fast actions," Los Angeles police said.

The driver was described as a woman with gray hair, about 60 to 65 years of age, with a heavy build. The vehicle may have been a Toyota Camry.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Central Traffic Division detectives at (213) 486-0755; (877) LAPD-247; or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
