A dog found itself in a scary situation after falling through the ice Monday evening at Wescott Station Park in Eagan.

Eagan police say around 5:30 p.m. the dog was out on a walk with its owner at the park when it started chasing some ducks.

However in its attempt to catch the ducks, the dog went out too far on thin ice and fell through. The dog got stuck in the icy water, which was about three to four feet deep.

An Eagan firefighter crawled out on the ice to save the dog and helped it by coaching it to the shore.

While this situation had a happy ending, officials say it's a good reminder of the dangers of thin ice, especially as the temperatures rise.
