A cargo ship that ran aground in the Duluth-Superior Harbor over the weekend floated free from the bottom as the water level rose Sunday evening, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

American Spirit, a nearly 1,000-foot ship scheduled to carry iron ore pellets at the time of the incident, ran aground in the harbor Sunday afternoon and came to a halt just 30 feet from the breakwall. It floated free around 10 p.m. and proceeded under its own power, with tug assistance, to the dock.

No injuries were reported. An examination of the interior and exterior hull is ongoing.
