Body of missing Marya Christiansen, 23, pulled from Mississippi River

A white vehicle was pulled from the Mississippi River in Pierce County on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. while search teams were in the area looking for missing 23-year-old Marya Christiansen.

"The vehicle was pulled from the water and matched the vehicle Marya was driving," the Pierce County Sheriff's Office confirmed. "A deceased female was located inside the van and she was identified as the missing female, Marya Christiansen."

Christiansen was last seen early Saturday leaving a friend's house near Red Wing in the white Dodge Caravan. At the time, police said she would have been traveling to her residence near Hager City, Wis. Christiansen's boyfriend alerted police when his girlfriend did not return home.

Following her disappearance, friends and family joined United Legacy, a nonprofit search volunteer group, in an effort to locate Christiansen.

Agencies involved in the search and recovery process also included the Wisconsin State Patrol, Red Wing Police, Red Wing Fire and Rescue, Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, Goodhue County Sheriff's Office Dive and Rescue, and Minnesota BCA.
