Body found in Savage, Minn. identified as missing youth basketball coach
SAVAGE, Minn. (KMSP) - A man's body recovered from a retaining pond near Target on Highway 13 in Savage, Minn. on Friday was identified by medical examiners as 39-year-old Martise Windom, Savage police confirmed Sunday.
Windom was a youth basketball coach and father of two who had been missing from the Savage area since Nov. 7. Volunteer searchers and police spent multiple days searching a wooded area behind Windom’s townhome, but found no signs of the 39-year-old.
Officials received a report of a body in a holding pond less than a mile away from Windom's home around 11 a.m. on Friday; the body had been in the water for quite some time, police said.
“He's a runner so he likes to go on trails,” Windom's godson Noah Gregory told Fox 9 in November. “And that's the number one thing, he would not leave his children, he's fought for them always making sure he was there for them."
