873 pounds of meat pies recalled from New Brighton bakery

NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (KMSP) - Solomon Snacks and Bakery, based in New Brighton, is recalling approximately 873 pounds of meat pie products that were not inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Administration and were improperly labeled.

According to a USDA release, the product label did not say that the pies contained eggs, milk, and wheat, which are known allergens.

The beef, chicken, and turkey meat pie items were produced on various dates from Feb. 2016 to May 2016. The following products are subject to recall:

- 5-oz. packages containing one “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Beef”

- 5-oz. packages containing one “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Chicken”

- 5-oz. packages containing one “Solomon Snacks and Bakery Meat Pie Turkey”

- Unlabeled Styrofoam boxes lined with wax paper containing 5-oz. frozen meat pie products produced by Solomon Snacks and Bakery

The recalled products do not have the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Illinois and Minnesota. The products distributed in Illinois were in Styrofoam boxes and did not have any labeling.

So far, there have not been any reports of illness related to these items.

Officials urge customers to throw away the meat pies or return them at the store.
