Minnesota wildfires: 17 active fires burning in northern MN; Walz to get briefing Wednesday

Wildfires continue to burn across northern Minnesota after hot, dry and windy conditions fueled an explosion of fires across the Superior National Forest and neighboring parts of Canada. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness remains closed, evacuations are underway, and Gov. Tim Walz has declared a peacetime emergency.

Walz and the Emergency Executive Council are scheduled to receive a briefing on the 17 active wildfires Wednesday morning and vote on whether to extend the state's peacetime emergency for an additional 30 days.
