Storms roll through Twin Cities metro, thousands without power

Storms ripped through the Twin Cities metro early Wednesday morning leaving thousands without power.

Residents in Washington County have reported trees down and roads blocked. Some of the heaviest damage was reported in Forest Lake, Minnesota.

A National Weather Service survey team determined there was EF-1 tornado damage about four miles south of Forest Lake.

Xcel Energy reported more than 56,000 people were without power at one time, but crews restored power to all but 9,000 customers by noon Wednesday.  Xcel expects service to be restored to all customers by 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

As of 5:00 p.m. less than 1,000 Connexus Energy customers were without power in the north metro. They expect all power to be restored by tomorrow morning.
