Minnesota weather: Bright and frigid day on Tuesday

The Twin Cities metro can expect a bright but frigid day on Tuesday with filtered sunshine and temperatures in the single digits.

Tuesday’s forecast in Minnesota

What to expect:

It’s a frigid start on Tuesday with subzero temperatures and wind chills across the state. A cold weather advisory is in effect for much of northern and western Minnesota until 11 a.m., with windchills between 25 and 35 degrees below zero, and actual temperatures from minus 15 to 25 degrees.

The Twin Cities is excluded from the advisory, with temperatures around minus 7 degrees and wind chills between 15 and 25 degrees below zero. Highs will only reach 4 degrees in the metro, while northern Minnesota stays below zero. Much of the state will see single-digit highs.

The day starts bright, but high clouds will increase in the afternoon, filtering the sunshine. Winds remain light, around 5 mph from the northwest. Overnight, increasing cloud cover will help keep temperatures in the metro above zero.

Frigid cold continues

What's next:

On Wednesday, southeastern Minnesota could pick up 1–2 inches of snow, while the metro will likely get a few flurries. Temperatures across the state try to reach into the single digits, which is well below the average high of 27 degrees.

Thursday will be sunny but frigid, with a high of 8 degrees in the metro. Friday will be the warmest day of the week, reaching the 20s, with a chance for some light snowflakes.
