Minnesota weather: More clouds and chilly on Monday; light snow in southern MN

Minnesota is in for a frigid week as a cold front moves in, bringing cloudy skies across the state and light snow to the southwest on Monday.

Monday’s forecast in Minnesota 

What to expect:

A blast of artic is arriving on Monday, keeping temperatures well below average throughout the week. Highs will reach the teens in central and southern Minnesota, while northern areas only reach the single digits. The Twin Cities metro daytime high is 14 degrees. 

Monday will begin with some sunshine, northwest winds at 5-10 mph, and an increase in cloud cover by the afternoon.  

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for far southwestern Minnesota, where a couple of inches of snow is expected. The Twin Cities could see a few flurries, through no accumulation. 

Meanwhile, a cold weather advisory is in place for parts of northern and western Minnesota from Monday night into Tuesday morning, as temperatures are set to plummet. Central and southern Minnesota will see overnight lows in the subzero teens, while northern regions could experience temperatures in the 20s below zero.

What's next:

Tuesday will be another frigid day, with temperatures hovering near zero across much of the state. Cloud cover will also increase throughout the day.  

The arctic air will linger through the week as temperatures remain well below average, with daytime highs reaching the single digits and overnight lows falling below zero.
