1-3 more inches of snow expected in the Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The Twin Cities metro is bracing for significant snow accumulations by Tuesday evening with flakes that started flying Monday evening.

Minnesota State Patrol officials reported 242 crashes statewide between 1 p.m. on Monday and 10:00 a.m. Tuesday; 25 of those crashes included injuries, none of them serious or fatal, and 210 off-road incidents. 

There were big differences overnight in snowfall totals with the northwest metro, which accumulated around 2 inches, and the south metro, tallying closer to 6 inches.

We'll see light to moderate snow off and on this morning with an additional 1 to 3 inches possible by early afternoon which puts our metro totals in the 3 to 8 inch range (less to the north, more to  the south, hence the Winter Advisory/Warning difference that bisects the metro).

Tuesday outlook

The light snow tapers to flurries Tuesday afternoon and evening as temperatures stay pretty steady in the mid 20s.

Winter Storm Warnings

Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for the metro and points southward for more than 6 inches of snow accumulation. The snow likely arrives near the dinner hour Monday night and will hang around with off and on heavy snow at times right into Tuesday evening.
