As we enter the dog days of summer, we celebrate the return of Dog Days Westonka. The pet-friendly festival will take place on Saturday August 13th, from 9am to 2pm at Surfside Park and Beach in Mound. Don?t miss the cutest puppy contest. At the last Dog Days event there were 60 contenders. The festival will also have a pet expo, food trucks, a dock dive event called ?Splash for Cash? and doggy paddle boarding demos with the opportunity to give it a try with your dog.

It?s no surprise that the birthplace of waterskiing, Minnesota, also boasts several impressive water ski teams and shows. One of the Midwest?s largest water ski clubs, the Shakopee Prior Lake Water Ski Association, puts on a free show at Quarry Lake Park in Shakopee every Thursday of the summer through August. Nearly a thousand people show up each week to watch the pyramids, ballet, barefooting, jumping and wakeboarding. The association was formed in 1957 and has nearly 200 members.

This is an important week to show support for the people who grow our food. It?s National Farmer?s Market Week. And because of the cool start to summer, some of the most popular items are just now in-season, like sweet corn. The Minneapolis Farmer?s Market will host a big event at their Lyndale location on Saturday, August 8th. There will be live music, cooking competitions, a corn-husking competition, giveaways and more. The market opens at 6am with opening ceremonies at 8am. Events will run through 1pm.

Art-forward rooftop bar opens in Uptown

There?s a new rooftop bar to check out and it doubles as an art gallery. Arts + Rec Uptown will open phase one, the rooftop bar, on Friday August 5th to coincide with the return of the Uptown Art Fair. The bar serves up fun, playful food and drinks that fit the atmosphere. They?re serving up everything from mini-keg cocktails to Caprisun-style bagged beverages. The food taps into Minnesota favorites like Top the Tater, fried pickles and cheese curds, except these cheese curds are inside a waffle on a stick. Phase two will open later this year. The main floors will have a full bar and restaurant, a speakeasy, an artist-inspired mini golf course and an intimate black box theater.

Popular performing arts festival returns this week

The Minnesota Fringe Festival is back in-person for the first time since 2019. It runs August 4th through the 14th at different venues across the Twin Cities. There will be more than 595 performances of 115 shows. They offer a little bit of everything from a popcorn musical about the Minnesota State Fair falling in to the hands of a greedy real estate mogul, to a ballet murder mystery centered around cupcake bakers. It?s the largest performing arts festival in the Midwest.

Here?s a pairing parents can get behind. Urban Air Plymouth, an indoor adventure park, is expanding its offerings by teaming up with Snapology. Kids can take a spin on a zipline one minute, and code a robot the next. Snapology uses LEGO bricks, K?Nex and technology to teach children about science, technology, engineering, art and math. Right now, the Snapology classroom in the entertainment center is being used to host camps with themes like Star Wars, Roblox and Minecraft.
