Haunted attraction returns for MOA's spooky season

It?s getting extra spooky at Mall of America. Onionhead?s Revenge is back for year two and they?ve added more scare to the haunted attraction. The story-driven experience takes place in a 45,000 square foot space that used to house level two of Bloomingdales. The American Monsters crew has transformed it into a foggy dark and very haunted bayou of Louisiana. There are also two bars, one in the lobby that is open to anyone and another in the middle of the experience. It opens on Sept. 27 and runs through Nov. 2.

The scare returns to Valleyfair

Over the weekend, ValleyScare returned to Valleyfair in Shakopee as a separate ticketed event. The family-friendly event, Tricks & Treats, is back as well, starting Sept. 28th. ValleyScare has six haunted mazes and three scare zones. It will run on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. through Oct. 26th. Tricks & Treats is on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Oct. 27th.

Fine art gallery opens in former Brothers Bar space

Two years ago, Brothers Bar & Grill, a downtown Minneapolis spot popular with the college crowd, closed its doors. On Sept. 30, it reopens as a fine art gallery. The entire building has undergone a change with the Kickernick Gallery in the front corner space, a future restaurant in the basement and rental space available for artists to use as a studio. The gallery features 12 local artists and is bringing art back to downtown Minneapolis. The gallery is located at 430 N. 1st Avenue and will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

South African circus performers bring show to MN

A very talented group of performers from South Africa are entertaining audiences at the Children?s Theatre Company. MOYA by Zip Zap Circus is an acrobatic, energetic show set to original South African pop music. The show will be at CTC through Oct. 20.

Stillwater dance studio celebrates 10 years

Saturday is National Dance Day and it also happens to coincide with the grand opening of a dance studio in Stillwater. Curio Dance has been rapidly growing for the last decade and needed more space so they built a state-of-the-art studio for their 320+ dancers. 40 of those dancers are part of their group called "Up Down Funk." Brother and sister duo, Dario and Giselle Mejia started this troupe for their brother who has special needs. That group, and many others from the studio will be performing at the Grand Opening on Saturday, September 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. It?s located at 1655 Washington Avenue S. in Stillwater and the event is free and open to the public.

New and improved mobile library hits the streets of St. Paul

St. Paul has a new state-of-the-art library on wheels. The Mobile Library is replacing the book mobile that was used for the last 19 years. The new name reflects more services offered including access to mobile hotspots and Wi-Fi, and notary services. They also carry books in multiple languages and have a wheelchair lift. The Mobile Library is wrapped in artwork created by St. Paul artist Emma Eubanks who visited the Book Mobile as a child. Sever?s Fall Festival returned for its 27th year. In 1997, the family had the idea to create a corn maze, and it has only grown since then. There are a few new additions this year including inflatable axe throwing and Can Can Wonderland Mini Golf. The festival runs Saturdays and Sundays through October 27 (and October 17 and 18 during MEA). They?re open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Historic drive-in reopens with new name, menu and look

The iconic Galaxy Drive-in closed nearly nine years ago. It reopened again in 2020 for a summer and then sat vacant until now. Craft & Crew purchased it in the winter of 2023 and opened Wells Roadside. The space has a whole new look and menu. They?re serving up fresh-cut fries, flavor-blasted soft-serve ice cream and an Oklahoma smash burger made with Wagyu beef. They also serve beer and cocktails on tap. Nothing on the menu is over $10. Wells Roadside will be open year-round, from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.

Quilters flock to Chaska for 6-day festival

Chaska is the destination for quilters from around the world for the next five days. World-renowned quilter, Gudrun Erla moved to the western Twin Cities from Iceland and started GE Designs. And for the third year she?s hosting GE Fam Fest, a six-day festival with classes, demonstrations and a huge tent sale at the Chaska headquarters. The festival started on Sept. 11 and runs through the Sept. 16.

Honeycrisp harvest just days away

Minnesota?s apple season is well underway but there?s still a few more days before the Honeycrisp will be on shelves at The AppleHouse in Victoria. They?re expected to have the first apples this weekend with the full stock coming in early next week. First Kiss, SweeTango and Zestar are available now. The AppleHouse is located 1.5 miles west of the main Arboretum entrance. It?s open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Minneapolis? only castle opening for ?Cocktails at the Castle?

The real-life castle on Park Avenue in Minneapolis will be the place for live music, Nordic-inspired art, pop-up demonstrations and unique food and drinks this weekend. Cocktails at the Castle is American Swedish Institute?s adults-only fall event. The theme is ?County House Party? inspired by the Karin Larsson exhibit currently featured at ASI. The event is on Sept. 14 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. General admission tickets are $50 ($45 for ASI members).

Labor Day is typically the end cap on summer and that goes for the recreation equipment rentals through places like Three Lakes Park District. The kayaks, canoes and paddleboards will be put into hibernation after Labor Day weekend so if an open water adventure is calling, your time is limited. Three Rivers has rentals on a first come first serve basis. Call ahead to check hours and availability.

A blooming celebration is underway in Lino Lakes as the sunflower fields are blossoming at the Joyer Adventure Farm. The fourth generation family farm is hosting a sunflower festival to celebrate, where visitors can wander the fields, cut their own sunflower and take advantage of the other offerings like the barnyard, kids playground, pick-your-own bouquet field and hayrides. Starting Sept. 21, the pumpkin patch will be open along with a corn maze as well. The Joyer Adventure Farm is part of the Waldoch Farm Garden Center and will be open Thursday to Sunday. The Garden Center is open Wednesday through Monday.

MN Renaissance Festival begins this weekend in Shakopee

For the next seven weekends, you can go back in time to the 16th century. The Minnesota Renaissance Festival returns for its 53rd season in Shakopee. It?s the largest renaissance festival in the country with annual attendance of 300,000 people. The festival is open weekends, Saturday and Sunday from Aug. 17 through Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. rain or shine.
