Winning road trips keep Twins in Wild Card hunt

The Minnesota Twins had two massive road trips in the past month, but returned home both times with winning records to stay in the American League Wild Card hunt. The Twins went 6-4 on an East Coast road trip, then 5-4 on a Midwest trip that included division leaders Houston and Kansas City.

The latest road trip wrapped up Sunday in front of a sparse crowd at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, but the Twins were ready to put on a show. Miguel Sano got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first, and Torii Hunter capped a 10-pitch at-bat with a 3-run home run off Chris Sale to put the Twins up 4-0.

With a strong outing on the mound from Kyle Gibson, the Twins rolled to a 7-0 win, but remain one game back of the Texas Rangers for the final Wild Card spot.
